Newent Runners are intending to stage their first race in November and held a trial event to test out the marshalling, signage etc in advance. A total of 42 runners from many different clubs took part, 8 of which were from Forest of Dean AC. The course started with a lap of Newent School’s playing field before heading out onto undulating roads towards Clifford’s Mesne and back to Newent for a total of just under 6 miles.
First FODAC finisher was Julian Boon, 6th in 41:23. There were also a number of category winners: Helen Lipscombe FV35 in 50:23; Sherryl Hall FV45 in 45:26; Fiona Turner FV55 46:23 and Chris Moore MV60 in 44:56. Other times: Cherry Fowler 47:21; Michael Marks 48:59 and Jo Babij 60:55.
The event ended with a barbeque and was a great success. The first official race will be held on November 15th, and would be a good warm-up for the Elan 10 to be held on the following weekend.
