Dursley and District AC’s newest off-road race, the Five Peaks Challenge took place on Wednesday the 27th of May starting from the Peak Academy on Drake Lane. The race takes in some of Dursley’s most testing climbs, including Cam Peak, Cam Long Down, Uley Bury and Downham Hill, otherwise known as Smallpox Hill”, rewarding runners with dramatic and expansive views of the surrounding countryside. The race route is around 10.31 km long, but with 318 m of climb it is the equivalent of a category B fell race.
The winner was Gareth Green of Portobello RC, finishing in 44.55. First Forest of Dean AC runner to finish was Leyton Fleet, 4th in 49.49 and 1st MV40. Next was Chris Moore, 60.04 and 1st MV 60, followed by Chris Hawkins in 73.05.
