Fan y Big Horseshoe Race
The Fan y Big Horseshoe Race was created in 2007, and is a perfect 10-mile skyline route with 2000ft of climbing, starting and finishing in Llanfrynach, near Brecon. This year it was part of Forest of Dean AC’s fell race championship and attracted 11 runners from the club, although much of the early part of the race was done at a slow walking pace due to the steepness of the climbs! The overall winner was Jim Webb of Team Bath AC in 1.14.39 and first lady was Helen Marshall of Aberystwyth AC in 1.33.20.
First FODAC to finish was Julian Boon in 1.47.47, a personal worst for the race but showing a steady return to form following injury. Not far behind was first FODAC lady Martha Hamilton, in 1.48.37. Tim Watkins 1.49.53 and Ian Morgan 1.53.16 were next of the men, with Helen Lipscomb 1.59.08 and Gemma Hewitt 2.08.02 next of the ladies. Other results: Chris Moore 1.55.48; Stef Francis 2.10.55; Val Hamilton 2.13.34; Jo Edwards & Kate Burke together at 2.15.38.
